Chess VS Poker

Hello friends! In this article we will examine the main differences between us (chess players) and our poker players friends, so that when we meet them next time on the street or at the pub we have the definitive arguments against their absurd thesis that poker is better than chess.

First difference: at which word is the word “Chess” immediately associated? It’s simple: “Intelligence”. And instead which word is mainly associated with the word “Poker”? It’s equally simple: “Luck”. And this is not a little difference, since thanks to that we chess players have the self-awareness of being crap, while our poker friends continue, defeated after defeat (and also paying money on money in their case, another serious difference to not underestimate), to consider themselves great and brilliant players persecuted by the blind Goddess Fortune.

Another difference: when we see famous games of GrandMasters we are often stunned by thinking of what they have done, in a way that is not different from what we feel in front of an art masterpiece. There is no such thing in poker. There are spectacular hands, but whatever the outcome we don’t have the feeling that we could not have done the same, except perhaps the emotional mastery to remaining unmoved in front of all that money. One of the cards to complete the hand came out… he did a good bluff… she had great intuition to fold a strong hand, but it is never comparable to, let’s say, a Tal’s sacrifice.

But the main difference is this one: most of us chess players play for the sake of playing, and even if sometimes we participate in real money tournaments we know that it’s not that the reason, since at most we can reach some small prize. Consequently, when we lose after a beautiful and well played match we are often still happy (there are, of course, exceptions). On the contrary, the vast majority of poker players, if not all, play for money. They play for that and just that. So, with this we have reached the main difference: a class difference, precisely in the Marxist sense of the term. Merchants and bourgeois play poker. We aristocrats prefer chess. Yuhuuuuhh :D
